This beautiful home will accommodate up to six guests. It is located in the Dordogne region and in an area that is a history trove.
The village of Martel is known for being the village with 7 towers. Walking through the streets one sees and feels the rich past from cobblestone streets, to magnificent Hotels Particuliers (Private houses), that are still standing today.
During the middle ages the region was ruled by a King's representative and it was so until 1790.
Around the same period it became the jurisdiction capital of Turenne's Viscount. The Hotel de la Raymondie built around 1290 by Bernard Raymondi who was the son of Raymond IV Viscount of Turenne. Henri Court Mantel second son of Henri II Plantagenêt came to hide after his revolt against his father and the pillaging of Rocamadour.
Protected by its ramparts the village was, after the treaty of Brétigny occupied by the English from 1360 to 1374.
It was definitely attached to the French crown under King Louis XV in 1738.
The magnificent XVIIIth century hall can still be admired on the grand Plaza surrounded by medieval facades. Close to Martel is the village of Gluges where one can visit the XIth century semi-troglodyte Roman Church.
The House.
You enter the property through a small courtyard and, climbing a few steps, you reach a small landing where a table welcomes you for meals, reading, etc. Entering the home you're right in the double living room to your left, and the open kitchen to your right. Directly across there's a table ready for meals in case it's a bad day outside! Still on your right you'll enter the spacious and well lit bathroom.
Going through the double living room, separated in its middle by the winding staircase and to your left, one finds the main bedroom. Going up the winding staircase you’ll reach the two separate, double bedrooms.
The house is nested in an old part of Martel with its main facade facing south giving an abundance of light all day long. As you’ll witness it, the owner has a knack for decoration and it shows.
