'Le Clos St Vincent' is situated in a peaceful corner of the commune St Julien de Chédon. Close to the medieval town of Montrichard on the River Cher, it is ideally placed for visiting the beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley. The fairy-tale castle of Chenonceaux is a mere ten minutes away, while the historic cities of Blois and Tours, with their mix of ancient quarters and classy shops, are also within easy reach.
What sort of holiday are you looking for? You are almost sure to find it here, whether you want to realx and do no more than breathe fresh air, or fill your days with activity and sight seeing. There really is something for everyone!
We are right in the heart of Chateau country, with many of them under an hour's drive away. Whether your interests lie in architecture, history, art, gardens , 'son et lumieres' or theatrical shows presented by local people within the grounds ....there is a feast waiting here for you. There are also delightful, unspoilt towns and villages which have retained much of their old character, and which make a pleasant afternoon's saunter as you discover their pretty little streets and hidden corners.
Amboise has a large market on Sunday mornings, and there is usually a 'Brocante' happening somewhere locally over the weekends, if you enjoy hunting through the stalls for a second-hand bargain. Old pictures, furniture, books, nick-nacks, china.........you never know what is going to be on offer.
For those of you who enjoy French cusine and fine wines, there are restaurants nearby where you are sure to find something to your taste.
You will find plenty to amuse the children: our younger guests have enjoyed the zoo at Beauval, Sleeping Beauty's castle, and a visit to the troglodyte houses or the mushroom caves. Visit all the chateaux in one day when you visit the 'Mini Chateaux near Amboise. Montrichard has a beach on the river where you can hire pedaloes and canoes, swim, or relax in the shade of the trees. There is also a brand new swiimming pool with indoor and outdoor facilities. Tennis is available for the more energetic among you, and there are many safe places to cycle, both on and off road, which is a great way to explore the surrounding countryside. No need to bring your own bikes - you can hire them locally. Or you may prefer to walk; meander through the vines - the rhythm of the vine-growers year is fascinating at any time (and there are plenty of opportunities to sample their produce- the area is famous for its Touraine wines!), and there are delightful paths along the Cher which offer wonderful views of the river as it winds its way between tree-lined banks.
The accommodation comprises a cottage attached to the owners' own home, a traditional, stone-built 'longere' farmhouse. It is set in a large enclosed garden which includes your own shady veranda and patio corner with table, and barbecue (on request). There is safe parking for your car. Inside, the gite was completely renovated two years ago; on the ground floor there is a sunny living room with a well-equipped open kitchen, and a shower room/toilet. Upstairs are two bedrooms which accommodate a maximum of five people. Towels and bed linen are included in the price, as is the heating if you decide to make a visit at a cooler time of year. A washing machine and drying facilities are available.
Do you want to bring your dog? We are happy to accept well-behaved dogs, who will not mind sharing the garden with our own, by prior arrangement and providing you are willing to abide by the house rules.
To reach us, we are no more than six hours from the Channel ports (only four and a half from Le Havre), travelling on good motorways to within twenty minutes of here. Flights from Stanstead come into Tours Airport (one hour away) every day, with hire cars available at the airport.
We look forward to hearing from you, and to welcoming you to a part of theworld that we love and hope to share with you
