La Charrue is a former 18th century posthouse set in its own 6 acres of parkland. We are situated just 13km from the beautiful town of Brantome "the Venice of the Perigord."
La Charrue is situated directly off the main Angouleme to Perigueux route (D939) and is ideally placed in the Parc Naturel du Perigord/Limousin. Within a short drive there are numerous chateaux, museums, caves and historic sites.
| We have three comfortable gites sleeping from 2 to 6 people, and three bed and breakfast rooms sleeping 2, 3 and 4. On site we have a 10x5m swimming pool with sun loungers and parasols, solar shower and security cover. The pool and terrace face south. We also have a kiddies play area next to the tea garden with swings, slides, table tennis etc. An indoor games room with pool table is also available. La Charrue also features the only public Lawn Bowls green in France which is run by the Perigord Lawn Bowls Club (www.bowlsinfrance.com) There are over 100 miles of marked walks and cycleways in the area and we have our own mountain bikes for hire. Food and drink is available all day and evenings from the Terrace Restaurant and Tea Garden. During high season we have daily deliveries of fresh bread and croissants.As well as an abundance of centuries old villages to discover, such as Brantome, St Jean de Cole, Nontron and Perigueux. Within one to two hours you can reach Bergerac, Sarlat, Domme, Rocamadour, Bordeaux and Cognac. | |||
Le Studio
Located on the ground floor, this is a one roomed apartment offering excellent value accommodation for 1 or 2 people. The room is 15'6" x 17'6" and has a gas oven, fridge, dining table and chairs, 2 armchairs, a coffee table and a double bed. There is an en-suite shower room. This gite is next to the road which can be busy at times, but is effectively double glazed for you comfort.
L'Ecurie
Originally part of the barn and stables which could take up to 40 horses! Downstairs has a large lounge/dining room and kitchen (22' x 20') with stone walls, oak beams and an open fireplace. The kitchen has a full gas cooker, microwave and fridge freezer.
French doors lead out onto the courtyard where your garden furniture is situated.
Upstairs are two large bedrooms, one with a double bed with bath/shower and wash basin, another bed can be added to this room. The other room has twin beds and a wash basin. Again, an extra bed can be added. On the landing is a shower room and a toilet.
Le Ruisseau
Located on the ground floor with two rooms and a shower room.
The living/dining room, (12'2" x 15'6"), has a dining table and chairs and a double sofa bed. The kitchen has a gas oven, fridge and all crockery and cutlery.
The adjacent bedroom has a double bed, (an additional bed can be added), and off this room is the en-suite shower room.
Each room has a door that leads into the courtyard where your garden furniture overlooks the pool.
We have three bed and breakfast rooms, all with en-suite shower rooms, sleeping 2 to 5 people.A choice of continental or English breakfast is offered. Evening meals are also available from the Terrace Restaurant.
Camping
We have 8 emplacements with electric hook up (4amp). Modern shower block, washing up sinks, chemical toilet disposal point.Pitches can be reserved for £15 returnable deposit.
Bowls
During 2006 we constructed at La Charrue France’s first Lawn Bowls Green. It is a flat green comprising 6 rinks and was be ready for play on the 6th May 2007 under the auspices of the newly formed Perigord Lawn Bowls Club.
During the season we are able to offer the opportunity to stay and play bowls at La Charrue. Guests will be afforded temporary membership of the Club for the duration of their stay at La Charrue and subject to the club’s normal green fee (currently 2.00 euros per game ) will be able to play as much as they wish. Details of all club requirements, eg., dress, equipment, rules etc. are available directly from the club on request.
