Description

Our spacious terraced town house in Le Bugue has recently been renovated and decorated to a high standard and comprises three large and airy bedrooms with two large bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped, including dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The large dining room leads into the salon which has French windows opening out onto the very large south facing terrace which overlooks the river Vézère. There is an electric blind which covers part of the terrace to provide shade when required, and all the windows have shutters to help keep the rooms cool in Summer.

The bedrooms are beautifully furnished with one king size bed, one queen size, and two singles. There are wardrobes in each bedroom. Bed linen and towels are provided.

You step out of the house onto the old high street, and the pretty town of Le Bugue is on your doorstep, the centre being a two minute walk away. There is free parking very nearby. Wi-fi internet access connected.

Le Bugue

The thriving old market town of Le Bugue received its charter for a Tuesday market as long ago as 1319, and the historic buildings and lanes all help to create a very pleasant ambience. The bustling Tuesday market provides the holidaymaker with all the sights and smells one associates with life in France, and this is just 2 minutes walk from the house..The town has all amenities including butchers, banks, restaurants, pharmacies, doctors, and above all a number of boulangeries.

Within the town there are tourist attractions such as the Village de Bournat, which is a living museum of bygone days, the Aquarium du Perigord Noir, and a number of interesting caves and underground caverns to visit. With the terrace overlooking the pretty river Vézère there is plenty of time to sit and watch life go by, perhaps with a glass in one hand. Lazy days are not compulsory !! but an option.

Local activities include swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, water skiing, mountain biking. Canoe rental is readily available on either the Vézère or Dordogne rivers and is great fun, and there are also boat trips on the Dordogne. Balloon flights are available not too far away, and this is an interesting way to view the river, chateaux and countryside.

Dordogne Area

Le Bugue is situated in the Perigord Noir region of the Dordogne and sits on the Vézère river. Nearby it joins the river Dordogne which then continues its journey westward towards Bordeaux and the Atlantic.  Our region is noted for truffles, good wine and good food, a veritable gourmet's delight. The Vézère valley is steeped in history (and pre-history), having been inhabited for many thousands of years. The countryside is stunning, with wooded hillsides and shaded river valleys, with troglodye caves and enormous underground caverns which are spectacular. Many of the local towns are themselves steeped in history, such as Montignac with the famous Lascaux caves, Sarlat with its wonderful architecture, and Domme, a bastide town perched on top of a hill with incredible views over the countryside. The town of Les Eyzies, 15 minutes drive away, houses the museum of pre-history, and there are many pretty towns like Beynac, Le Roque-Gageac, Monpazier, Limeuil etc. to explore. The Vézère and Dordogne valleys provide some wonderful walking and cycling trails, and renting a canoe, or going on a boat trip is a pleasant way to pass some time and see the countryside from a different perspective.  The whole area allows you to do as much or as little as you want.

Perigueux is the principal town of the region and is about 40 minutes from Le Bugue. The city centre has an impressive cathedral surrounded by cobbled streets and alleyways with a great range of shops, both modern and traditional, and an excellent choice of restaurants. Sarlat is 40 minutes away  is definately worth a visit. Bergerac is about 50 minutes away, and there is lots of history associated with wine production. Since there are many vineyards around the Bergerac area a good day out is to potter around the country lanes, stopping at any vineyard that takes your fancy, sampling their produce, and enjoying the countryside.  Life is tough over here!!
