Les Cypres is a very comfortable holiday home for up to four people which offerss you a wonderful place to relax as well as an excellent base to explore the Languedoc and Cathare country. Extensive garden space. The house is accessed by a flight of steps from the garden and has a sunny and sheltered balcony - this leads into the kitchen/dining room (with fridge/freezer, electric coffee maker, electric cooker, dishwasher), a small sitting room and the bathroom are on the same floor. Upstairs there is a double bedroom, a twin bedded room and washroom. Outdoor furniture is, of course, provided and during the summer months there is an 11m x 56m swimming pool. For those with wireless enabled laptop computers we have wireless internet access. Laundry facilities are provided in a separate utility room. There is central heating and a wood burning stove making this a cosy house for out of season holidays too.
The nearest airport is Carcassonne (20 minutes) but Perpignan, Montpellier and Toulouse are all within an hour and a half's drive. The nearest train station is Carcassonne.
The property is situated on the edge of the village of Caunes Minervois, just five minutes walk from the village centre. caunes is a charming and welcoming village with a network of mediaeval streets around the eighth centuery Benedictine abbey. The village is attractively situated, lying at the northern edge of the Minervois plain where the land starts to rise up into typically Mediterranean "garrigue" countryside and the foothills of the Montagne Noire. The village has all everyday facilities including post office, bank with ATM/cashpoint, supermarket, épicerie, butcher, baker, café, restaurant, newspaper shop, pharmacy, garage and petrol filling station.
The Minervois is a wine growing region situated between Narbonne and Carcassonne. Both scenery and climate are typically Mediterranean but the Montagne Noire and the Parc Regional du Haut-Languedoc are only a few kilometres to the north with shady forests and mountain lakes. The coast is about an hour away. There are Cathare castles to discover, natural features such as the amazing Gouffre Géant de Cabrespine, beautiful abbeys such as Fontfroide, local markets on most days of the week, fetes and festivals throughout the year and many opportunities to sample the local Minervois wines.
