La Grue is a charming 19th century farmhouse with original beams and exposed stone work, beautifully renovated into a 3-bedroomed luxury self-contained Gîte. A private entrance with parking leads to your own front door and behind the gite there is a secluded garden and terrace, overlooking a wooded valley and in the distance Rochechouart. The views over the surrounding countryside from the back of the gite are fabulous all seasons of the year, with the rolling hills, fields, and woodland.
We are located in the heart of 'Le Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin', and are ideally situated to explore the varied and beautiful attractions of the Haute-Vienne, Dordogne and Charente departments. If you enjoy outdoor pursuits then you can fish, swim, cycle or meander around the beautiful lakes in the area. Golf is also available at 3 Golf courses nearby and there are many more attractions situated locally.
The accommodation consists of living room, kitchen / dining room, three bedrooms one en-suite and a bathroom.
Living room. Large spacious room (23 x 17 foot) with TV, british free to view satellite dish, and DVD player two large settees and occasional chairs, wood burning stove for heating in winter or on cold days, front door leading to courtyard which has full morning sun, ideal for an alfresco breakfast. Large beam running the length of this room. A set of stairs gives access to two of the bedrooms.
Kitchen / Dining room. This room is accessed from the living room through a low door. This room has the original stone work exposed on three sides and again a large beam runs the length of the room (16 X 16 foot.) The kitchen is fully fitted, washing machine, dishwasher, electric cooked, micro wave, toaster, kettle, all cutlery, and crockery, pots and pans, sink etc. There is a table and chairs in the dining room to seat six people and a breakfast bar with stools for less formal eating. There is a door leading to the rear garden and BBQ area, and the view from this side of the gite is fabulous. There is another set of stairs leading to the bathroom and bedroom number 3.
Bedroom 1. This bedroom overlooks the front courtyard and has the en-suite facility (16 x 11 foot). The room has a double bed, clothes storage unit, bed side cabinet and an electrical radiator. The en-suite has a shower, vanity sink unit, storage area, heated towel rail and WC. All the bedrooms have beams running the full length of the room.
Bedroom 2. This room overlooks the rear of the gite and has an impressive view over the trees and hills towards Rochechouart (16 x 13 foot.) This room has two single beds and a clothes storage unit, bed side cabinet and an electrical radiator. One wall has the original stonework exposed. There is a low door giving access to the shared bathroom.
Bedroom 3. This room also overlooks the rear of the gite and has the same impressive view (16 x 13 foot.) This room has a double bed and a clothes storage unit, bed side cabinet and an electrical radiator. Two walls have the original stonework exposed, and the roof beams are also visible, a Velux window adds lots of light to this vaulted room. The shared bathroom is next door to this room.
Shared bathroom. The shared bathroom has a shower, vanity sink unit, storage area, WC, heated towel rail and the water heater is in this room. This bathroom has two doors one from bedroom 2 and one from the stairs leading from the kitchen /dining room, so you must remember to lock both doors or you may be caught out!!
The Garden. Large area at rear of gite with BBQ facilities, chairs, loungers, the ideal location to chill out and admire the view over a long cool beer or a large glass of wine.
The nearest village is Cheronnac which has a small bar and post office, and is about one mile down the road, the other direction is Vayres which has a number of small essential shops and a bar.
We are only 6 km from the pretty market town of St Mathieu, which provides full amenities including a petrol station, banks and a supermarket, there is also a swimming lake and artificial beach here, and you can hire boats and fish in the summer.
The market town of Rochechouart is also close by which has a beautiful chateau and several bars, restaurants and shops.
The capital of the Haute-Vienne is Limoges, this is a very attractive city famous for it’s porcelain. There are also 10 Castles in this department alone, museum of varying descriptions, archaeological sites, 8 major lakes and 2 theme parks.
The Haute Vienne (87) is the least industrialized region of France and it is famous for vast expanses of Chestnut and Oak forests, pleasant villages and large lakes. There is a wide range of outdoor activities and a diverse variety of wildlife in the area and the area has now been designated as part of France's newest Parc Regionale.
Whilst the area provides the perfect setting for a summer holiday it is also particularly beautiful in the spring and autumn, when the changing colours of the seasons are a photographers dream and the weather can be very pleasant for walking and cycling.
Videix. Large lake here with two man made beaches.We also have access to a private lake for fishing, the lake is situated close by and is very tranquile and there are many carp and other species of fish in the lake.
Well-behaved dogs are allowed as we have two of our own.
Smoking permitted down stairs and outside but not in bedrooms.
