Description

The Marais-Rue Chapon apartment is located in a building that was erected in the late eighteenth century. It retains some very specific styles of that era such as exposed roof beams, stone walls and red octagonal tiles. Thanks to its location in a very narrow street, Marais-Rue Chapon enjoys peace and quiet.

The name Marais translates to "swamps", which tells you that this part of town was once a very swampy area. Around the fifteenth century the King decided to drain this area of town to make it a suitable place build a castle. His whole court followed him to the area and private townhouses and huge mansions were built, each successive building larger and better than those that preceded it. Marais quickly became a boom town. Somewhat later in history another King decided to build an even larger chateau in another and distant location. With the subsequent departure of the court the Marais went into decline. About thirty years ago the character of Marais began to change and the area became and still is one of Paris' most active districts.

This apartment is located in the heart of Paris. All of the major attractions are but a short distance away.

The Marais-Rue Chapon apartment consists of a large living/dining area and has a fully equipped kitchen. A bedroom and full bath with shower are located off the living room. Separate dining facilities in the form of a breakfast bar can be found in the kitchen area with a full dining table in the main room.

Located in the Marais district, the apartment is close to major attractions including Notre Dame, the Pompidiou Center, high-end Paris shopping and the major museums. Within easy walking distance are many fine restaurants, cafes and shops. Parisian markets are also nearby.

The apartment has two sofa-beds and one bedroom that and can accommodate four to five guests.

The apartment is located in the third district just a short walk from the heart of the Marais.

The Marais is one of the oldest and most historic areas in Paris. A place of aristocratic residence in the seventeenth century, it was abandoned during the Revolution and became an architectural wasteland. The Marais was not touched by Baron Haussmann during his work in the 1830's to make Paris the most modern city in nineteenth century Europe. As a result the Marais retains its pre-nineteenth century splendour. In 1962 it was declared an historic area and restoration began in earnest. The area is now once again fashionable with many galleries and restaurants, fashion boutiques and cultural centres. The main streets and narrow passageways are bustling with activity.

Nearby are the Pompidou/Beaubourg Museum, the Picasso Museum, the Louvre Museum and the Place des Vosges.

Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est train stations are both nearby. Orly and Charles de Gaulle Airports are easily reachable by taxi or a private limousine services. Our suggestion would be for you to spend a day or two in Deauville in the Normandy region. Train schedules are plentiful or alternatively it’s less than two hours drive.

The nearest subway stops are Rambuteau and Hotel de Ville. Taxis can be called for a pick-up on your doorstep or you can catch one very easily by the Pompidou Museum.
