 The Perfect Getaway

 Gregg and Sandra would like to welcome you to Charlan Bed and Breakfast, a traditionally south facing maison de maître stone property built in 1698. Charlan is set on 3 acres of organic enclosed land, fencing with an electric gate and is bordered by the River Lot with approximately 100 meters of private river frontage, ideal for fishing.

Charlan is surrounded by acres of kiwi fruit plantations and agricultural land and the only neighbour is approximately 200 meters away. The location is private and peaceful. The access road that passes by Charlan stops at the River Lot and is only used by ourselves, our neighbour and the occasional local fishermen.

Charlan is situated in a quiet rural area, but not an isolated position and is within easy walking distance of the picturesque village, Aiguillon (2km) that offers all amenities, including a supermarket, post office, banks, tourist board information centre, restaurants and a railway station and is within a 10 minute driving distance to the A62 motorway for access to Bordeaux and Toulouse.   Aiguillon is situated between the towns Tonneins and Agen, in the heart of the beautiful Lot et Garonne region in Aquitaine, South West France.   The name Aiguillon comes from the point (aculeus in Latin) formed by the confluence of the Lot and the Garonne. The sumptuous chateau built by the Duke of Aiguillon in 1775-81 is now a College, whose majestic rear facade looks out over the Garonne valley. To the right of the chateau and church is the medieval district of Lunac, which contains timber-frame houses and a castle whose roof and towers can be seen from the Place Lunac.

The land that surrounds Charlan on all sides, is mainly laid to pasture and lawn, with some mature trees and a newly planted orchard. Charlan also has a 10m x 5m private swimming pool with an outside toilet and changing area. Pool towels are provided for guests.

The Queen Guest Room is located on the first floor.  The room measures 28 m².  The Queen size bed is from America, (153cm x 203cm/60 in x 80in) complete with excellent quality American bed linen.  Relax on the 2 seater leather sofa and enjoy a glass of local Buzet wine.  Ample hanging and drawer space for clothes, a ceiling fan for those warm nights.  Pine flooring, fireplace and beams add character to the room.  There are two large windows that overlook Charlan's grounds and views of the River Lot.  Clock radio, hairdryer and Ralph Lauren bath towels are supplied.  Lock and key on the bedroom door for added security.

The Double Guest Room is located on the first floor.  The room measures 28 m².  The double bed measures 138cm x 190cm/53in x 75in and is complete with excellent quality American bed linen.  Relax on the chaise longue and read a book.  Complete with antique armoire and a ceiling fan for those warm nights.  Pine flooring, fireplace and beams add character to the room.  There are two large windows overlooking Charlan's grounds.  Clock radio, hairdryer and Tommy Hillfiger bath towels are supplied.  Lock and key on the bedroom door for added security.

The Main Bathroom measures 5 m² and is situated on the first floor in between the Queen Guest Room and the Double Guest Room.  Wash hand basin, toilet, bath tub and overhead shower.  Shampoo, hair conditioner and soap are provided.  There is also a shower room with toilet available on the top floor if you do not want to share the main bathroom.
 

The Three Quarter Guest Room is located on the top floor.  The room measures 17 m² and also has a 7 m² en-suite shower room with toilet and wash hand basin.  The three quarter antique bed measures 122cm x 190 cm/48 in x 75 in and has excellent quality bed linen.  Complete with ample hanging and drawer space for your clothes, a writing desk with chair and a ceiling fan for those warm nights.  Pine flooring, beams and a small window overlooking Charlan's grounds add character to this charming room.  Alarm clock, hairdryer, Tommy Hillfiger bath towels, shampoo, hair conditioner and soap are supplied.  Lock and key on the bedroom door for added security.

The Private Guest Lounge is situated on the top floor.  A three seater sofa and an armchair to sit on while you read a book, or watch television.  Freesat television is available which includes BBC and ITV channels, Sky News and various other television and radio channels.  We have a large range of DVD's available to watch, games and books.  Also local information and maps of the area.  Coffee and tea are supplied on the top floor in the morning prior to breakfast.

Continental breakfast will be served on the terrace during the Summer months, weather permitting and in our traditional French kitchen during other times.  A Full English Breakfast is available at € 7.00 per person and has to be reserved in advance.

Smoking is not allowed in the house or guest rooms (smoking is allowed on the terrace or surrounding grounds) Pets are not allowed. Owners have private accommodation from the guests. There is also a cat on the premises. He is not allowed in the guest rooms. All prices are in Euros and are per room per night for 1 or 2 persons. Payment to confirm booking: 30% non refundable deposit. Payment by Euro - Cash, PayPal or Cheque. Sterling Cheque or Bank Transfer available at the days current exchange rate. Directions to Charlan will be emailed to you with your booking confirmation.
