In the heart of Perigord vert, Dordogne, lies our magnificent 19th Century Chateau. Built in 1840, it has recently been refurbished to the highest standard of luxury. Each room has been carefully decorated with traditional colours and wallpaper from Farrow and Ball, and furnished with antiques and works of art. All bathrooms are of the highest standard, using brands such as Lefroy Brooks and Sottini and bed linen and towels from Frette.  The Chateau comprises of 12 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, 5 of which are en-suites. The property is set in 12 acres of beautifully kept gardens, complete with fruit orchards, a swimming pool and badminton court. Breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner can be taken on the terrace overlooking the picturesque village of Lanouaille, or alternatively a candle lit dinner in the sumptuous dining room. The luxury gite is now ready for use and has 4 bedrooms to sleep 8 guests. The gite is as luxurious as the chateau. If you just book the chateau the gite is never rented to another party.  The chateau is an historic landmark in French history. This was once the palatial home of Marashal Bugeaud, the Duke d'Isly. This chateau was actually given to him as a token of appreciation for his dedication to France. The Duke served under Napoleon and was most noted for plotting the victorious Algerian war in 1836. His influence on French history is evident in the numerous statues and landmarks named after him in France.

The Chateau’s discreet elegance is reflected in the comfort of its rooms. From parquets floors and wood panelling to impressive marble fireplaces and period furnishing. Each suite is tastefully decorated with Farrow and Ball colours, and are spacious and comfortable with magnificent king sized beds and luxurious and generous sized en-suite bathrooms. All rooms have breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, and come equipped with flat screen televisions with satellite television, DVD players and telephones, making your stay even more relaxing and comfortable. Please note all rooms are non-smoking.  Basement: Large kitchen, wine cellar.  Ground floor: Large formal drawing room, 2 formal dining rooms, a superb modern well equipped kitchen, a library, television room, a fully equipped office, 2 loos, and a large terrace with garden furniture for up to 40 people.  First floor: 2 huge suites (double bedrooms, a sitting room and en-suite bathrooms), and 3 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.  Second floor: 7 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 1 shower room. General: There is a new alarm system and smoke alarm throughout the chateau which is connected to the police. The chateau has a washing room. All the appliances whether they be in the kitchen or sitting room are modern and of the highest quality.  

Outside: There is a Gite in the grounds with a living room, a kitchen, 4 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms (ready in spring 2007). There is 12 acres of park land for you to wander, a swimming pool (12x6m) with fence and alarm, 12 luxurious sun beds with tables, table tennis, badminton, bicycles and a BBQ area for 40 guests. The gardens are surrounded by a wall and fence so children and animals can run free!

 

Bergerac is 128km away and Bordeaux is 197km.

 Within 15 minutes of the chateau there is a lake (with beach sand) for fishing, water skiing and canooing. There are also local tennis courts and horse riding facilities. Wine tastings can be held at Chateau with a local sommeliers. The region is famous for foie gras, walnuts and truffle. It is worth visiting Perigeux, a beautiful town with a famous cathederal and markets (40 minutes away) and Hautefort, one of Dordognes most famous castles with beautiful gardens 15 minutes away. The owners will be happy to provide more information about area if wanted. Within walking distance of the chateau one can find 2 bakeries, 1 butcher, 1 supermarket and there's an outdoor market once a week in the village.  There are large supermarkets in St Yrieux. Within 15 minutes there are several excellent restaurants.
